#34: Scalped, Sick Davey, Voids in Pyramids

Hey gang, get ready for a journey into THE DARKNESS OF MEN’S SOULS, as the boys read Scalped, the Vertigo cult crime-drama classic by Jason Aaron & R.M. Guera, and Dave and the Main Man go deep on the RESERVATION! It’s a long, bitter powerful cup of black coffee this time! Hold the SUGAR!

Also, Stew and Dave go deep in the Star Wars teaser, Justice League rumours, the solo-centric spotlights on Batman, Wonder Woman Thor Ragnarok box office numbers, while the Signal’s own Marvel Encyclopaedia, Drew Geraci, writes in to detail what signifies the Silver Age, the Bronze Age and the Modern Age!

Dave is also obsessed by the mysterious VOID that has been located in the Giza Pyramid, and Stew refuses to accept this is probably filled with alien husks!

We talk more SHAZAM, and then speculate wildly on Flashpoint. There’s a Deathstroke movie to discuss, and both Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot (aka Wonder Woman herself!) have been very open and honest about the status and recent past of the Warner’s DC movies.

Meanwhile, Tessa Thompson and the editing of the LGBT scene in Thor is discussed, and Dave gets overly excited and starts comparing Tessa to RDJ himself in terms of her awesomeness and importance to Marvel going forward. As Dave begins to cast her in multiple movies, Stew attempts to calm hm down.

RED ALERT and Punisher Playbook both feature in a SYNCHRONISED SECTION and shoutout to Michael Keloisim for another awesome email! Plus WEEKLY comics! All this and MORE on this weeks episode of Signal of DOOM!

#33: Thor Ragnarok Discussion, Stew’s Flu, Magnum PI rebooted?

Welcome to another episode of Signal of Doom. My brave co-host Stew is suffering from flu but he still punches the clock and gives the Signal his all! He even agrees with Dave 100% about something! This is UNHEARD OF!

The boys talk the Thor: Ragnarok movie in detail, with both spoiler and non spoiler reviews, while also going back in time to Stan & Jack’s original Thor Ragnarok story!

The boys talk Chuck Dixon’s new comic project Avalon, part of the AltHero universe, which is open for crowdfunding at: https://freestartr.com/project/althero/

Chuck is doing a comic book for this new universe and also a novel, Vendetta! Chuck had me at the title!

Also, Dave is hosting an Ebay auction for some action figures and statues – his eBay auction handle is redlantern2051 – check it out for some figures and some upcoming trades at good prices!

Justice League tracking numbers and suspected Chinese leaks about a Green lantern are discussed, along with our concerns over the run time. Dave has more thoughts on a Catwoman and Batman wedding, while Stew grits his teeth and tries not to die of the illness sapping his strength and moral fibre!

We go IN DEPTH on Shazam and the casting announcements,  and Dave pitches what would happen if he was running Warners – it would be hard to tell what was a solo movie and what was a Justice League film! Stew of course, hates it, as he hates FUN!

Speaking of no fun, Dave and Stew both turn into two very old grumpy men as we scorn this week’s reboots & reheats which includes Lethal Weapon 5, Magnum Pi AND Ace Ventura!

Plus, we have Punisher Playbook – strap in kids! Its FULL THROTTLE as we RISE from the Swamp!

#32: Batman vs Predator, Nancy Drew meets the Wire, & Dave the Wedding Planner

Welcome FRIENDS to another episode of Signal of Doom as Dave and Stew cover Batman vs Predator, Vol 1!  It’s an EPIC episode as the Predator stalks his PREY in Gotham City! Also, Dave makes a bold statement about the current Batman era, high on the strength of the Metal spinoff books, and DEEP in love with Catwoman! We go IN DEPTH on the Black Panther trailer, the awesome possibility of an all female marvel movie,  the Punisher Netflix Show has a RELEASE DATE and a NEW trailer, and Stew is SO EXCITED by the Hasbro shared universe sans Transformers and GI Joe! Get ready for Mr Potato Head, kids! Dave then shares some DELAYED news about Cable and the Brolin deal, we debate the merits of the Han Solo spinoff movie being titled SOLO, and speculate wildly about the true life and story of Professor Marston and his relationships with his wife and mistress.

Kevin Smith is discussed in detail, Dave gets DEEP, and talks about possibly giving to charity ONE DAY, if a lot of financial conditions and goals have met. We then talk at length about some new revelations about Heath Ledger on the Dark Knight, we talk about his death and his impact, overall, while Stew takes us back to the celebrity gossip mill of the mid 2000s.  This episode Dave goes in depth about his love for Catwoman, and also his research into Eliza Gonzalez and her display of possibly the Catwoman suit! A SIGNAL BET is made as the boys speculate on the wedding plans of Batman and Catwoman, and Dave takes it upon himself to become  a WEDDING PLANNER! All this and much more on the Signal. Also….NANCY DREW MEETS THE WIRE!

Mike Baron Interview – Q-Ball

We have a special guest tonight, one of my favourite writers working today, Eisner Award Winner, Mike Baron,  who is launching an exciting new creator-owned comic called Q-Ball, through Kickstarter with artist Barry McClain! Check out the Facebook page for Q-Ball for updates and links when the Kickstarter goes love next month! https://www.facebook.com/Q-Ball-517900905221331/

“Detroit homeboy Curtis Ball joined the Merchant Marine and ended up managing a warehouse in Manila. Curtis wanted only two things out of life: to see the world and study Kali/Escrima. But when a pack of tuxedoed sharks muscle their way into his warehouse, Curtis learns the hard way that it’s not always smart to mind your own business.
The spooks are looking for Donna Wing, a beautiful Chinese blogger, forced to flee due to her exposes of human rights abuse. Now Curtis and Donna are on the run—from the Chinese government, the tongs, and a group of international cutthroats who will stop at nothing to stop them from reaching the United States and spilling their guts.
Sometimes you have to spill some guts to spill your guts.”

Mike has a long history in both comics and novels, and has created long standing characters such as Badger and Nexus, as well as acclaimed run on Punisher though the 1980’s and 1990’s. His novels include Biker, the first in the Josh Pratt series of novels, Domain, and Banshees. We discuss these and the impending release of the Josh Pratt series into books stores in 2018.

Mike is great fun as we wind through many topics and I pepper him with some Punisher and Badger questions in what was a great conversation. It’s always a pleasure to have Mike on Signal of Doom – go buy his books kids and support the Q-Ball Kickstarter!
