#42: Batman Strange Apparitions, Dave’s Great New Big Idea

Hey gang! It’s a big holiday themed episode of Signal of Doom, and we cover the fantastic 1970’s trade “Batman: Strange Apparitions”, by Steve Englehart and Marshall Rodgers! This is a good one folks! Gothic, moody and magnificent, with the dark of Gptham LIT UP by the magnificent Silver St Cloud! Maybe we are tipping our hand but the boys enjoyed this one!

Also, Dave has a Great New Big Idea, which involves ranking the top 3 Comic Book runs we have discussed on the show in 2017, and also our top 3 genre movies! Don’t worry we also have a Most Disappointing Category as well!

We cover IN DEPTH the Doct Who Xmas Special, and Dave gives his (sleep-interrupted) review of Bright.

Stew has done some research this week, and it is do with the top acting earners in Hollywood in 2017  – Dave gets outraged by what he feels is a low valuation on Hugh Jackman’s earnings, so get ready for a reminder of his property holdings! Stew MEANWHILE has all the DETAILS on Mark Wahlberg!

Happy New Year, kids. Catch you in 2018!

Weekly Comics

Batman #400 (classic selection)

Doomsday Clock #2

#31: World War Hulk, Icers, I cannot sanction your buffoonery

Welcome BACK to the Signal of Doom, as the boys cover World War Hulk! It’s the GREEN GOLIATH vs the rest of the Marvel U as the Hulk is back from Sakaar and ready to take names!

It’s SIGNAL TRAILER DISCUSSION TIME as Stew and Dave discuss the Justice League trailer, the Last Jedi trailer, the Pacific Rim Uprising trailer, a New Mutants trailer and an X-Files trailer just for good measure!

Dave then goes into his controversy of the week from Marvel, featuring ICERS! This is the last hijinks from Marvel, where the general population does not BELIEVE Captain America was frozen in WW2. If you DO believe, you are called an ICER. Wow.

We go in depth on the Fast & the Furious franchise, we pit them against the Expendables cast, we talk about cage matches between the two casts and Dave puts all his money on Jet Li.

The boys talk in depth about Doctor Who, the missing Shada story from the 1970’s, Dave goes into full geek mode as he discusses The Who Files, Doctor Who novels, and he starts hyperventilating as he starts talking Tom Baker as the Doctor and questions  what is Stew’s favourite TARDIS control room.

All this and more in this week’s episode of Signal of Doom!

It’s a HUGE Signal of Doom this week! Stew and Dave cover the awesome Thor: The God Butcher by Jason Aaron, RIP & love to George Romero and Martin Landau, they get heavy into discussing the incredible sounding Avengers trailer at D23, Dave is bitter and whines about “being peasants outside the cathedral” as he openly begs for a press pass to San Diego, the incredible Grant Morrison is back at DC doing Arkham Asylum 2 and Wonder Woman, we FINALLY have a cool new female Doctor in “Doctor Who”, while meanwhile we break down J Scott Campbell’s incredible $1495 San Diego Comic Con lunch, and the boys break down their Mt Rushmore of paid lunches! Plus, we go deep into the Aladdin remake, and we obsess over what Will Smith will be doing as the Genie!
